The role
Neon Link places experienced paralegals and legal assistants full time with small US law firms, in the practice areas this role covers: personal injury and workers comp, consumer bankruptcy, immigration, family law, and estate planning and probate. You'll draft and format pleadings, petitions, demand letters and correspondence for attorney review, run intake and conflict checks, chase and summarize records, organize discovery, stage filings for PACER and CM/ECF or the state e-filing portal, and keep the calendar and the case file clean. You'll work in the firm's case management system, such as Clio, MyCase or Filevine, and in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat every day; most of the shift is drafting and file work, with regular calls to the firm's clients, courts and records offices, so this is mainly a non-voice process with real phone time.
It matters because a missed deadline or a sloppy petition can cost a client their case, and a small firm learns fast who it can hand a file to and stop worrying about. This is support work under the supervision of a licensed US attorney: you won't give legal advice, sign filings or make legal judgment calls, and nothing leaves the firm without the attorney's review. Everything you touch is covered by the firm's duty of confidentiality to its clients and often by attorney-client privilege, and an unchecked conflict of interest can force a firm off a case, so we look for people who protect a file by habit, not only when someone is watching.
People do well here when they're precise, unbothered by a heavy docket, and quick to raise the question the attorney needs to answer.
Day to day you'll take direction from the firm's supervising attorney or lead paralegal, as part of their team, with Neon Link behind you. Before you touch a live matter you're trained on the firm's case management system, templates, filing procedures and escalation path.
What you'll do
- Draft, format, cite check and proofread pleadings, motions, petitions, demand letters, agreements and client correspondence from the attorney's instructions and the firm's templates, following the court's formatting rules and Bluebook citation, for attorney review
- Run new matter intake: take the intake call or form, run the conflict check before any confidential detail is shared, open the matter, and send the engagement documents the attorney has approved through DocuSign or the firm's portal
- Request medical, police, employment, income, insurance and court records, follow up until they arrive, then index, Bates number and summarize them in Adobe Acrobat
- Prepare the work your practice area calls for: bankruptcy petitions, schedules and creditor matrices; USCIS forms and evidence packets; discovery requests and responses, privilege logs and deposition summaries; family law financial disclosures; or wills, trusts, estate inventories and probate filings
- Assemble filings and stage them for the attorney to submit through PACER and CM/ECF, USCIS online filing or the state e-filing portal, coordinate service with the firm's process servers, and keep proof of filing and service in the matter
- Calendar every deadline, statute of limitations, hearing date, response window and objection deadline the day it's triggered, using the rules the attorney sets, and remind the attorney before, not after
- Keep case notes, task lists, status updates and billable time entries current in the firm's case management system, so the file shows anyone where the matter stands
- Send the firm's clients clear status updates and document requests the attorney has approved, handle routine calls with clients, court clerks, opposing counsel's staff and vendors, and route anything that asks for legal advice or a legal judgment straight to the attorney
- Send the supervising attorney a short end of shift note on what you drafted and filed, what's due next and what's waiting on a decision only the attorney can make
- Every deadline on the matters you support calendared and met, with filing deficiencies caught before anything reaches the court
- Drafts that come back from the attorney with edits to substance, not to formatting, citations or typos
- New matters moved from intake to a complete file promptly, with records requests out early and followed until they arrive
- Case notes and time entries kept current, so the firm can bill and anyone can pick up the file without chasing you
What you bring
- 2 or more years of hands-on paralegal or legal assistant work on US legal matters, for a US firm directly or through an LPO, agency or BPO, drafting, managing files and tracking deadlines under a licensed attorney
- An LLB or practice in Indian courts alone doesn't count for this role, and neither does LPO work limited to first-pass document review or contract abstraction
- Real depth in at least one practice area: personal injury or workers comp, bankruptcy, immigration, family law, or estates and probate, and tell us which one; general civil litigation support also counts
- Comfortable in a case management system such as Clio, MyCase, Filevine, Smokeball, PracticePanther or CASEpeer, and able to pick up the firm's system quickly; intake tools such as Lawmatics are a plus
- Clean document work in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Adobe Acrobat, including styles, tables of contents, bookmarks, Bates numbering and redaction, with sharp proofreading
- Familiar with US court filing mechanics: PACER and CM/ECF, state e-filing portals, service of process, local formatting rules and Bluebook citation
- Clear on the boundary: you don't give legal advice, quote fees, accept a case or sign filings, and you route those questions to the attorney
- Careful with privileged and confidential client information: you keep every file inside the firm's systems and off personal devices and personal email, you'll tell us which US firms you've supported so the new firm can check for conflicts, and you'll sign a confidentiality agreement, pass a background check and show a photo ID and proof of your US paralegal or legal assistant experience, such as experience letters, relieving letters or payslips
- Precise written English for pleadings, letters and case notes, and clear, neutral spoken English for calls with the attorneys, the firm's clients, court clerks and records offices, which matters more than any accent
- Able to work US business hours, a night shift that starts between 5:30pm and 10:30pm India time depending on the client's US time zone and the time of year, and to hold that schedule long term, with the occasional longer shift when a filing deadline calls for it, agreed in advance and paid
- Education: any graduate preferred, not required; an LLB or other law degree, or a paralegal certificate, is a real advantage, and US firm experience matters most
- Bankruptcy software such as Best Case, NextChapter or Jubilee, or immigration software such as Docketwise, INSZoom or Cerenade
- Legal research in Westlaw, Lexis or Fastcase, or drafting with CoCounsel (formerly Casetext), checking every citation it gives you
- Medical records review and chronology building for injury or malpractice files, and the demand packages built from them
- E-discovery review in Everlaw, Relativity or Logikcull
- A NALA CP, NFPA RP or US paralegal certificate program on your record
Work setup
- Your own Windows 10 or 11 computer with a Core i5 or Ryzen 5 and 8 GB of RAM or more that runs the client's tools, plus a webcam and a noise canceling headset
- Broadband of at least 25 Mbps with a mobile hotspot as backup
- UPS or inverter power backup so a power cut doesn't end your shift
- A quiet, private workspace where case files can't be seen and client calls can't be overheard
- Tell us your city and state when you apply; we hire across regions, so one storm or outage doesn't hit everyone at once
You'll do well here if
